Best Replacement Alternator for a 04 F-150 5.4?

I would be interested in hearing about the best and worst replacement alternator for a 04 F-150 5.4.

The motorcraft replacement is 253.00 not including core of 75.00. Not sure if there is or is not an advantage to sticking with Motorcraft?

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Dave

You could check NAPA. Or you could rebuild the current alternator yourself if you can get a kit. I would not use AutoZone alternators, though. I have not had real good luck with their brand of electrical parts. $253 exchange for a Motorcraft doesn't sound all that out of line, imo.

Thanks for your feedback.

I dont know if we have a NAPA Auto Parts here. Never noticed one. Napa has good electrical parts these days?

Thanks,

Dave

I am looking for a higher output alternator for my truck at the time. Not sure if you are looking to upgrade or just want to remain stock. There are a few places on the web that offer some good prices and no core charge on OEM alternators that have better output than our stock alternators. I figure if your going to be buying might as well upgrade while your at it. I'll email you or PM you some links.

I saw some alternators on ebay for around $60.00. I am thinking about buying one because mine has started to make a humming noise.

There's a starter/generator shop by me, anytime I need one I go right there $65-80 for a rebuilt done by them and they last LONG. You could check if there's a good old fashioned rebuild shop near you.

Do what MisterDave2 says. You will be money ahead. I wouldn't touch a new alternator for $60.00. It's got to be junk.

Don't forget to check some of the sponsors of this site. They give good prices and service for new oem parts.
