Note: On the pickups, the rear channels of the radio, are hooked to the front channels in series. You can see this in the factory diagram.

I could possibly e-mail you a larger scan of it. The site here compresses the scans too much.
EDIT: Sent you a PM.

Once you remove the dash pad,you can see the dash brace where the speaker mounts into.It is very hard to miss.

The above diagram that everyone is going goo-ga-ga over is in the "terrible" Haynes manual that I have, second page of the 1980 and 1981 diagrams "Air conditioner and/or heater, axle control and radio wiring diagram for 1980 and 1981".
I will admit the diagrams for the 87 and later trucks are not the greatest, but you will not find any better full fledged diagrams for the 84-86 trucks than in the back of the Haynes. And there is info for the 1980-1983, but you do have to do some flipping around for those years. Usually you can find what you need in the 84-86 section, they left it out of the 1980-83 section because it's redundant and is the same for all years.

You could do what the HACK PO of my '86 did ... Cut it out and put a grill over it!
I do have to give him some credit though, it has 3 Pioneer TS698's in it!
One HACKED into the dash and two HACKED into the rear side panels.
Of course he pulled the stereo whatever it was!
Them TS698's were some good speakers in their hay day!
I already have 4 and a Super Tuner III that I bought and installed for my ol'lady before we were chained together, A caddy left turned in front of her and totaled her Datsun 310 Hatchback, I pulled them before it got junked. At the time they were one of the best!
Along time ago!
-Enjoy
