first 69 bronco some questions

hey guys new here and new to fords as well. i picked up a 69 ford bronco yesterday. no motor but has tranny axle tcase hardtop all the glass. but the body and floor is really rough that not the problem i can handle all of that i restored a 69 pontiac lemans. my questions are about the drive line. i have a 390 and a c6 transmission in my garage and from what ive read they dont fit so well in to the frame and body. is there any engine tranny combo from a newer truck the i could maybe find in the junkl yard and swap in with maybe minor mods? thank you for your help KC

302, 5.0, fit right in or a 351 with minor mods. Backed up with a c-4 tranny.

The c4 transmissions was used from 1964 to 1983 usually backed with a 302.
But unfortunately the one you need for the bronco application was only used in the bronco and some early f-series trucks. Its the only one that has the tail housing to mount to the transfer case for the 4x4. But I agree with gfw1985 a 302/5.0 or 351w with a c-4 trans would be the easiest and most bang for your buck.

What do you intend to use your EB for? Street, Offroad, Hard core offroad?

Are you set with an auto? There are some great standards you can put in. I have a NP435 in mine, awsome for offroad. The NV3550 (came in 1/2 ton dodges and jeeps) are great for street use, some guys use the ZF out of Ford trucks. Also popular is the AOD from the 80's ford trucks. Google it and you'll find all kinds of info. ClassicBroncos.com has some good tech pages too.

Go with a 5.0 HO out of a mustang with roller cam and Mass Air fuel injection ('88-'93 I think)! I've got a rebuilt NP-435 I'm putting in mine right now and can't wait for that 6.69:1 granny gear on the trails. Both are fairly easy to find in the boneyard... If you go the 435 route get one out of a '60s to early '80s 2wd Ford P/U. These come with the 28 spline output shaft you need to mate to the Dana-20 transfer case.

You can also pull the NP435 out of any of the 70's models 3/4 ton 4x4 that have the divorced transfer cas, it has the proper 28 spline tail shaft.
