Oil in the valley, engine died, oil everywhere

Ok, driving to work today, was starting to accelerate, truck just suddenly died, wont restart. Pull to the side of the road, smell oil smoke, pop hood, smell oil smoke still. Look under truck, huge puddle of oil. Check dipstick, and there isnt any oil on it. Added oil to see if it will restart, took about 1.5 gallons. Cranked it over, no start, no oil pressure on the gauge, nada.

Started looking at the mess in the valley, and none of the high pressure hoses are leaking, and the crossover line isnt leaking. From the splash pattern, oil came before the turbo. I started feeling under the hpop and its wet under there. Do any of you guys have a picture of a hpop you could show me?

Anyone have any ideas on this one? HPOP prone to cracking and dumping oil everywhere like that? Im kinda lost until I tear into this thing more.

Thanks a million times in advance for the help.

Update!

okay in this picture, you see a snap ring holding a cover on, well in my truck, the snap ring is no longer on board, the cover is in the valley, and the piston or whatever is supposed to be there is protruding out, is this fixable, or a new hpop?

There is a pic and some info in this thread

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...f-drawing.html

It sounds like an oring or a HPOP line let go

in that picture you can see that big snap ring, ignore the red arrow, sorry, but that snap ring and cover are gone, and a piston looking thing is hanging out

Then it sounds like it's time for a new HPOP. You won't be fixing that with an o-ring. We don't hear about this too often, but it's not the first time.

Bob at Dieselsite has the Adreniline HPOP for around $500, or I've heard Joey at Terminator can sell you a modified 17 deg HPOP for even less. Either of these would be an upgrade over the stock pump for less money than an OEM replacement.

Thanks for the info. Truck has 200k on it, so it wouldnt be unheard of to have to replace something. I wonder what gave away in the pump, or did the snap ring just blow out, either way the piston looking thing has wear marks on it, i assume thats the way the pump produces high pressure oil, am i correct?

I'll check into those pumps, might as well make it better if I gotta replace it!

It seem like the snap ring may have failed. In the thread that I posted Ron attached a PDF file that is on a rebuild of a HPOP. You may have to get a new oring and snap ring and try and put it back together. I don't know if it will work for sure though.

I dont know either, at 200k on it, if i fix it, how much longer is it going to last, think its better to replace at this point?

I'm they type that if I can get the oring and the snap ring readily and cheaply I'd try it but in the back of my mind I'd be prepsred to call DI and order a HPOP. If it worked until the new pump comes in then great if not I learned that it can't be fixed.

Adrenaline HPOP installation instructions from Dieselsite. Same for a stock HPOP but you don't remove the check valves when putting in a stock HPOP.

Yep I agree..

I would also say your pump is repairable though too, as long as you can find the cover/snap ring ..
