tires for snow the snow season

I own a 01 L, and want to get ahead of the game. I live in Missouri and and roads here get pretty slick in the winter. I am wanting to know if anyone knows a good set of tires I could put on and still look good. Something with traction.

I myself have been tinkering with the snow tire idea.
I own a '00 L and have found there are only 2 brands of replacement tires that will fit our rim size. Good Year and BF Goodrich, neither of which is snow rated. I am going to buy new rims and tires for winter use only. I will be using the spare tire as my rim and tire size guide. I am planning on spending about $1,200.00 for all four.
