Understand now CMK.

I'll have to make or adapt a 2 jaw puller for the tool. Shouldn't be a problem and I'll give details.

Well, I've got the transmission all ready to pull except for the flex plate bolts, the bell housing bolts and the shift cable to shifter arm connection loose.

I made a real nice adapter plate to connect the transmission to a tranny jack and another one that worked great for the transfer case.

I can't figure how to get the plastic clip on the shift cable loose although I changed the shift cable on a 1998 Expy way back around 1999 when it broke, lying on the ground.

The white plastic piece did slip up about 1/4 inch but it won't move now.

This time it has me stumped and I don't want to break it.

Could anyone share the secret to unlatching it?

To R and R or adjust the shift cable clip, I made a tool that works real well by cutting the latch end off a large cable tie like is used to secure ductwork.

I cut it to abt 2 1/2 inches long and it is perfect to use when access is a little tight.

Just insert it into the top of the clip, like you would w/ a screwdriver, amd press.

My SO and I started the transmission change about 6 PM Monday and finished this afternoon.

Had to make support adapters for the transfer case and the transmission and a few other tools.

Drove it a few miles and it is smoother than the one we pulled.

I've got a $1000 core deposit being held on the new one and I'm not sure if I want to keep my known original that still works pretty good, or turn it in.

Learned a great deal and if anyone has questions, just ask.

Edit: It would be a VERY good idea to purchase a transmission jack for the job. I believe you can get them from Harbor Freight rather reasonably. I wouldn't attempt to horse around with a floor jack like you can with a manual tranny.
Sorry for the thread resurrection but, MisterCMK, do you still have these files available? Also the others in this thread? I need to replace my trans and I am tring to find as much info as I can. Thanks

Yeah! And if you like to upload these files on the database of Ford-Truck-Freaks.ch ? Would be a nice job...
So it's available for everyone at all the time... ;-)

(and...if someone would like to translate the german content of the site in a good english: youre welcome!)
