Ading upfitter switches after purchase on a new 2009.

How hard is it to add upfitter switches to a brand new 2009? I see it comes as a package with the heavy duty alternator when bought new.

Is the alternator necessary when adding it after purchase, or is it only needed when the switch output exceeds a certain amperage amount?

The truck I'm looking at was not built with the switches or heavy duy alternator. I'm only looking to run some backup lights and maybe an air compressor off of them.

Thanks,

well, here is how to go about it:
1. Order from FTE/parts guy, he will send it out. comes with wiring, everything you need.
Th!nkPartsGuy/FTEPartsGuy or you can buy from whomever.
2. Use the following link for a nice diagram so you can find the plug and where to mount the module and run the wires: https://www.fleet.ford.com/truckbbas/non-html/Q157.pdf

Takes about a hour or so. Hardest part is getting your body to twist in ways it wasn't meant to.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks. I'm finding trucks that have the features I want except the upfitter switches. Just want to be sure it'll be an easy addition. Is it all plug and play? Or is there some splicing involved?

I added the switches to mine and you aren't kidding about bending and twisting in ways your body wasn't designed. I finally found the pigtail needed. Stuck my arm up and when it came back down it was red. I was relieved to see I finally got it plugged tho. It was a chore to find thats for sure. But great add and would do it again in a heart beat.

Do you have the part number for the upfitter switches kit? I have a 2008 F250. Also looking for a fog light kit.

Just to add more infor to what Senix already posted......

I dont know if its the same part number with FTE parts guy but you can also look here...

Your Premiere Source for Ford Truck Parts and Accessories

And their instructions......

Your Premiere Source for Ford Truck Parts and Accessories

They added the heavy duty alternator on the 09 models. Ford has been using the upfitter switches since 05 without the heavy duty alternator requirement. Unless you are running something with a lot of draw you will be just fine. I run some lights, the high idle mod, and my CB and only have the standard alternator.
