Steering Adjustment

I recently replaced the manual steering in my '65 F100 with power steering, by swapping the steering box out for a bolt-on Ford bendix steering box. I don't have any leaks and I can steer with the palm of my hand. However, I seem to have more play in the steering wheel when I turn to the right than when I turn to the left...and this will cause the truck to jerk right around sharp turns. Do any of you know what could cause this? Maybe I didn't tighten something up correctly? Or, I should get an alignment?

Inherent issue with a piece of crap Bendix box that was a piece of crap new. It sounds like there are internal wear on the ***** and the recirculation gear or capture.

Its why no one uses them any more and why Ford stopped using them in 1968/69 model year and went to their own slip design.

The worm shaft (C6TZ3D518A), caged ball bearings (2-C6TZ3B736A), shims (4-C6TZ3D771A) are worn.

I could not find any of these parts new.

Well, I'm glad to know what the problem is so that I can stop wondering if I screwed something up on the install. I didn't pay much for the steering box and it is much better than the armstrong steering system I took out. I'll keep my eyes out for another box.

Something else to consider...there is absolutely no squealing in either direction and no leaking...things that would probably be happening if bearings were bad. I also have to remind myself that my other car is a BMW; I have to expect a bit less from this old truck!
