SD will handle quite a bit before the maps get screwy. Conanski will probably be by to let you know some more details, but this exact question has been covered dozens of times this month alone.
Biggest thing you can do for RIGHT NOW get up and go is to open up the exhaust. Decent headers and a single 2 1/2" pipe back will get you the most value for money. After that, look into a cam swap. There are a number of SD friendly cams available.

cold air intakes are a heavily argued subject. go to the junkyard and get the air inlet tube off a 4.9l straight six or 460 efi truck which gets the air from behind the grill instead of over the rad support like the 5.0/5.8 trucks do and then get yourself a k&n drop in air filter which goes in the stock airbox. thats about the most efficient intake setup. also headers are a good upgrade along with some 1.7 roller rockers, since i see in your other thread your pulling the valve covers anyways so that would be a good time to add the 1.7 rockers

obviously my 76 302 is a little different, but i like the power and sound the true dual exhaust gives me. two 2 1/4 inch pipes through cherry bomb glass packs. sounds mean, runs meaner. of course i do have a racing cam and a bore job helpin me out, but without the exhaust, it just wouldnt be the same.
