Hey Gang - Went in today and pulled the 428 apart. It was stuck so I had some fears but WHEW Got all the pistons out, block stripped, measured (it is a 428 - Another Whew), washed the crank, stripped the rods, and got the block ready for the oven so I can bake it on Monday. The block had been bored .030 and I think I can clean it by going another .010 so everything looked very good. I don't think the old thing had been run much after its last rebuild - there wasnt any kind of lip on the cylinder walls and if they hadn't been rusty I think I could have gotten by with just honing it! May even get by with just pollishing the crank (of course will have it ballanced). Here is a quick picture of the bare block.
Evening guys... I learned the hard way today how cruddy the hard water is at my place. Washed the 08 and when I was done it was covered in white spots and smears. Had to go to the car wash, that got rid of most of it. Ended up doing the hood and sides with spray wax/cleaner. What a mess... don't know why the people who owned this house before me didn't have the one of the outside faucets hooked to the water softner. I guess they didn't care about washing the car!
