Actually Don, I am swamped in work.

I think as the money gets tighter, people tend to fix up stuff more than when times are good, and just buy new all the time.

I am about 4 months of orders on the books right now for work, and its growing by about a week longer TO DO list every 2 days.
I need to hire someone else, but its hard to find a good fabber/welder in the area.

I know, and trust me I appreciate it.

I would hate to be a sled or motorbike dealer in these current times.

The fastest growing area is actually in fabricating custom parts, bumpers etc. even more so than say overhauling motors, drivetrains etc.

I have seen a sharp decline in the very high end mod sled building part of my business....They are very costly toys, and I think even people with some money are not going to waste it right now on extremely frivilous toys.

I hear ya... I was watching American Chopper and they are hurting.. They have laid off people and are trying to expand into Europe, cause it is so bad here..

That is true the toys are the first thing to go in a bad economy..

I would hate to own a boat right now.. You can't even give them away.

So true. I see boats for sale so cheap its crazy.
The owners are just desperate, and need to unload them.
And I am not sure about your area, but things like used cars, trucks, motorbikes and such here now are literally seeling for 50% to 60% of what they would have just a year ago.
I am going to buy a used truck next week, just because its such a good deal I could not pass it up.
I do not really need it, but am going to buy it anyways.

On the other hand stuff i am selling is also going mega cheap.
I just sold a motorbike that was in NICE condition, but an older bike, for a measly $1,800.

That is the problem.. Now is not the time to be selling, but the time to buy.. My son has a 77 F250 that he is trying to sell and can't give it away.. It needs some work, but the sheet metal is all solid.. He has asked $3500 and no one wants it.. It is well worth that...

I saw a report on the news a few weeks ago where people were just walking away from their boats and letting the marina take them cause they couldn't afford them and they are not worth anything..

Its scary times for many.
I have heard of people in our town just driving cars onto a dealers lot, and walking away leaving them there.
They cannot afford the monthly payments, so just give it back.
Sadly they will still be sued for the shortfall on the vehicle.
I guess I really don't understand sueing them though.
If a person is that broke, what are you going to gain by a lawsuit?

I agree... You can't get blood out of a stone..

But I guess they have to make sure the person isn't sitting on some cash or assett that they could pay with..
