97 ford ranger.... trouble code p0402, brakes really touchy, and door ajar...
so i just aquired a 97 ranger, xlt, 2wd, front disk, rear drum. Does anyone know where i can acquire a pdf FSM to put on my harddrive? When i first start to drive it in the morning or anytime that its been parked, the brakes are really touchy when i go from being parked. The brakes are so touchy that i have to compensate. The brakes seem to be grabbing or "locking up" (i use that term loosely though because it doesnt actually seem that a wheel inpaticularlly is locking up". Also the trouble code is a P0402, from what i know thats an excessive egr flow at idle, if i am correct. Does that mean a pressure sensor or position sensor is bad? what other possibilities? Also the interior lite is staying on for a while and the gauge cluster is showing a constant "door ajar" light even though all doors are closed. Looked for a door jamb switch but didnt see any, is the a "sensor" or switch built inside the actual latch assembly?

o, and the brakes, well i am going to change the shoes in the rear, ford has a TSB about some of their linings not being good for a humid climate, and i live in humid climate. so that problem is probably solved, just need to hunt down the door jamb/ door ajar switch, and the EGR problem and that will be solved, any leads?

Regarding the door ajar issue, the switch is in the door latch. Liberally spray electrical contact cleaner (WD-40 works too) into the door latch while opening and shutting the door several times to work it in.
A 402 code is usually a bad DPFE sensor, or a problem with the hoses and/or electrical connector. The DPFE is mounted on the upper intake, and either looks like this (metal version):
or like this (plastic version):
Also, check the hoses and electrical connection for any

good deal man, i will try those things! any tests that can be performed on the DPFE sensor?

The DPFE is a component of the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) System
