Rear Fuel Tank Swap

Rear Fuel Tank Swap
I have a hole in my rear tank... and it would not patch with an epoxy (im pretty sure the diesel just ate away at the bond on the epoxy)
So... i don't ever have a spare tire under the truck (wont fit)... I keep hearing that a 88-96 Bronco Tank will fit though... so my question is, do I have to modify anything to put the bronco tank under there? How bout fuel level sending unit?
33>18.5 i would rather have more fuel in the back for sure... more weight too for when im towing..

you will need longer skid plate botls (cant remember the length) and you will have to modify the filler neck depending on what you get with the tank. you will need the longer float that comes from the bronco tank. i used the bronco arm and swapped it onto my sending unit and then bent it as needed so it would barely hover over the bottom of the tank

The arm can be extended with some light welding of coat hanger wire or similar on your stock sending unit. The fuel pickup will also need to be extended.
Also the older bronco tanks only have a 2 inch sending unit hole so I think you want a tank for a 93 or newer. It has the correct hole to use your sending unit. I have some bronco tank pictures in my webshots

There is a new write up on another site, someone found that late '80's F-350's had a 38 Gallon rear tank. You can get those replacement tanks for a good price and have even more fuel. Just extend the pick-up and return tubes and skid plate bolts.

Man, if only I had found that 38 gal tank years ago, I would have skipped the Bronco tank and now everyone would be using the 38 gal one.
Thanks Rodney, wasn't sure if we should post a link to another forum...

I'm not sure if we've supposed to either, but I've posted links to other boards before and no one has told me I can't.
I'm surprised that no one has posted a link to your website with the info on the bronco tank.

I know its an old thread.... I did buy a 38 gallon tank and turns out that it wont fit... my class 5 receiver is in the way. If only it were an inch skinnier.... looks like it will be a bronco tank for me since this one will not fit.
Just a heads up to others that may be trying this. Now i get to see how to return a huge box back to LMC truck...
