2007 plug change

I have a 2007 5.4 that I bought in march 2007. My truck has 31,000 miles and was wondering what everyone thought if I should risk it and change the plugs now or wait till 100,000 miles. I think I should do it now before they get bad. Any info or thoughts welcomed.

Yeah I want to put anti-seize and put the champion one piece plug. If i take it to the dealer and they break a plug, would I be covered under warranty? Or should I do it myself and follow the tsb?

Since the plug change won't be from a scheduled service, I doubt it, but since you are paying them to do something, they might find a way to finagle it if they break one and cover it under warranty. Ask them, and then let others know!!

The plugs won't be covered under warranty....and at the mileage you're at there shouldn't be any problem with them breaking....with the champions theres not really a need for the antiseize.....just make sure they're gapped right.

When i pulled mine out i had every intention of following the tsb....but the second i cracked them a 1/8th turn they just loosened right out

I know people say to use AeroKroil, but where can I find it locally. Some people say you can use carb. cleaner? Is this a good alternative?

The latest TSB says to use "Motorcraft Carburetor Tune-Up Cleaner", which should be available at the dealer.

Ok. So I started working on a plug and first of all the plug was so tight. It took more than 33lbs of torque per the tsb to move it. Then finally after it moved it was so hard and it was squealling alot any time I moved it. I had to stop. I am going to soak the plugs over night

I was told by a Tech, that squealing is a good thing! It is when they do not squeal & suddenly they just turn easy, is when they already broke!!!....

The Motorcraft carb cleaner is ten times better than the spray stuff. It is thicker and doesn't evaporate. All you need is a capful in each plug hole. The plugs will come out with all the carbon dissolved into a gooey paste. Squeaking is a good thing until it suddenly stops. I say leave the plugs in until they are due. Who knows, you may not even own the truck anymore at 100k. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. They will come out easily with the Motorcraft cleaner if soaked long enough.
