3spd column shift in van how reliable?

3spd column shift in van how reliable?

Looking at an 84 E-150 with the 3 on the tree. Don't have any exp with this tranny, what are it's streangths/ weaknesses?

All-synchro, top loading, iron case "303" Ford trans. Good, reasonably strong, may need bearings at some point. Shift linkage may be an issue, as it tends to wear and get sloppy, but if it's good, and you can live with the gearing, you're in as good or better shape than any 3 on the tree ever was.

mines in a 77. I doubled the HP in the truck, and I have no issues with the trans. No complaints of any kind.
