I bet that something is wrong internally. When was the last time it had a tune up?

My 02 7.3 gets 19-23, but it's been pampered. 460's are hard on fuel (8-12mpg), but can be set up to achieve in excess of 15.

All within the art of the possible.............I personally see no reason why one can't mod a 460 engine, re-gear it, put it on a diet and get in excess of 15. Others have (and that was a Big Centurion to begin with):

Hey guys new here, thought i would chime in. 2000 f-250 7.3 auto, empty scaled 7500 lbs, loaded 3 job site boxs filled with tools, scaled 10,500. 30 gals = 756 miles = 25.2 mpg. loaded is daily driver. when empty maybe i gain 1.5 but for conversations sake it stays about the same. Tip- I dont blow coal every light nor do I drive it like a race car. standard mods., cold air, 4" pipe and php hydra chip, ww2. Now with that said developed oil in fuel bowl, and a fuel restriction problem and mileage dropped to 14 mpg. hope it helps

Indirect sequential fuel injection

IDI'S have indirect SEQUENTIAL fuel injection same as regular fuel injection EXCEPT THEY HAVE AS MANY INJECTORS AS CYLINDERS although it is still indirect, because it doesn't go from fuel tank to combustion chamber, it goes into the fuel system first.

ummm... I think it's indirect because it doesn't get shot straight into the cylinder it's into the prechamber ...7.3 direct injectors inject directly into the cylinder it all goes from tank to a "fuel system" lift pump, injection pump, or unit injectors, then to the combustion chamber or prechamber in the case of idi ...this nonsense about idi being direct injected cause its not forward of the valve hahahaha what has been going on, on this site? it can't be forward of the valve that's not how stratified injection works ...some yall confused this with homogenous spark ignited combustion works aka gasoline ...the point of...you know what never mind late to the party anyway...97 7.3 575k factory injectors..15mpg hell or high water

Ditto on the IDI pre injecting into the pre chamber. I seriously believe the only way a 460 gas will get 15+ mpg is going straight down a pine tree with the switch off.
