Having trouble with 361 FT thermostat selection
I read a few threads here and am fairly confident I have a 1973 361. It is in an F600 of same year. Truck has only had 3 owners, myself being 3rd. I know both previous owners so to my knowledge the engine is original to the truck. The truck was running hot last weekend whic it has never done in the past. Radiator is about 10 yrs old and still looks new on the outside but it was corroded inside probably from lack of use. I yanked it and sent it out for a good boil. In the meantime decided to change the Tstat. It appears to me to only have 1 and from what I read here should have 2 ?? Also there is a bypass from the water pump housing to the tstat housing and to me it seems I should have a tstat cable of covering the hole unless cold ?? I have no idea what the original tstat looked like as the one I removed was aftermarket and a 195(too hot for this truck). The water pump was a PIA to track down as well as NAPA only showed the 4 bolt one(looks similar to a SBC. After an hour of pourig through pics and trying different applications I came up with NAPA TFW 44005 as being the correct one new. It was 80$ and NAPA is reboxed Gates so I looked up Gates 44005 on Rockauto and got it for 48$. It is the correct one . Now I have to figure out which thermostat belongs in it ??

Contact NumberDummy about the T-Stat. You will have to
e-mail him as his PM's are off. Also post up the tags and numbers
from the door post with the vin number. This will tell ND what the
truck was equipped with when new.
And we all like pic's.
Here is how to post pic's on FTE

Do you have digital pix of your truck from digital camera or phone on your computer? If so it is easy to add them to a post (assuming the file is not too large). Find the pic on your computer and leave it open while you come here in another window. Compose a post, click where you want the pic to appear in the post. Click on the picture icon at the top of the posting box (looks like a postcard with mountains and sun) A dialog box will open asking if you want to drag a pic onto the box or browse your computer to find it. If you have the pic open, go there, right click anywhere on the pic and chose copy from the menu. Come back to your post and right click on the box. Select paste from the menu. Your picture should appear (it may take a few seconds to load) in the box. Now left click on the insert button.
If the stars all aligned your picture should now be in your post window. Select post to have it appear on the forum or repeat to add more pix. Some cameras make huge files these days that are larger than the forum limits. You may need to resize or resample the picture and save the smaller file version with whatever picture editing software came with your picture taking device before you can post it.
Oh! and welcome to FTE and the old truck madness.

A word of warning. The Gates water pump was basically correct but like all made in (insert third world country) it was not cast right. I'll post pics later but the waterpump pulley hit the waterpump housing. I did some quick measurements to make sure it the pulley flange was pressed on to the proper height. The water pump was about 1/16 thicker than the old one. I ground it down. Other than that the truck is back on it's feet and seems to be running cooler. Still putting it back together as I took the noseclip off

There is only 1 thermostat. There are two housings, upper (C8TZ-8592-B) and lower (D0TZ-8592-A), but only the upper housing has a thermostat.
