New gears are definitely in the plan... either 5.13 or 5.38.

Hopefully 5.13s or 5.38s will be installed.

Oops, didn't see your reply...

That should fit about right with cutouts.

I disagree...but it's all personal preference.

Of course I don't like 40/13.50s without cut-out flares either.

The cut-out flare truck linked in the first post is 36/13.50s on 20x10s with 4.5" BS for reference.

I like having my tires tucked so my truck stays clean, not that lunar rover look, so we differ there.

Yeah, if you like the tires tucked under the flares then you'd like that combo.

Speaking from experience here, 13.50's look really skinny with cutout flares. On my old Chevy I went from 35x15.50 Thornbirds to 36x13.50 TrXus tires and they looked almost like they were no wider than the bedsides/fenders underneath the Bushwhacker cutout flares. Can't remember how wide the flares were though, I think they were 3"?

tires vrs lift

well if i was you to make the truck look right and function properly with 40's saying that they are 14.50 wide or wider i would run at least a 7-8 inch lift with the cutouts and you will still proply stuff them... i have a 2001 sd with an 8 inch lift with 37's and cut outs and i damn near stuff them when playing in the sand dunes, i upgraded to a 10 inch lift and new 2.0 fox shocks with deaver springs so i dont have to worry about stuffing them when it catches a lil air in the sand dunes.

I measured the wheels today. They actually have 4.25" of back spacing.

Here is a frontal pic of the truck... the tires are barely covered by the flares. Are you sure that those tires are 13.5" wide? They look like 12.5" wide.

cartmanea - what is the offset on your wheels? I thought that if you went wider than stock with the 4.5" backspace that they would stick out further than yours look like they do. I am getting ready to do a 4" with 35s and want to keep them tucked. I am hoping to be able to run them on the stock wheels for a bit but am not sure if they will rub or not with the 4" and stock wheels.

They are 18x10s with 5.03" backspace. I bought them off an '06, but the offset fits the '04 and earlier truck better. At full lock the tread is about 3/4" from the leaf spring and the tread sticks out less than 1/4" from the fender. I could almost get away with 5.5" backspace, but my next tires will be 37x12.50 so these should put the tread right about 1/4" from the leafs at full lock. A 12.5" tire is pretty wide for the stock rims, I wouldn't run them on anything under 9" wide.

Thanks. I have been looking at 315/70/16 and guess I am not really sure if they are 12.5" wide or not. So if that math works if I use a 9" wheel with 5" backspace I should be under the fender and still off of the leafs. Good math?
