I think is would be a neat idea. What engine does the 01 have? 5 speeds were only an option on the 4.2 and the 4.6. If you have a 5.4 you would have to look for something out of a F250... Then maybe look for a 6 speed

It's a 5.4 just finished putting a new to me 60,000 mile engine in. I got 210000 HARD miles out of the first one. I went to electric fans cold air intake tube and a SCT tuner from 5star. Just thinking I'd like to 5 or 6 speed it. I'm thinking the 4.6 had the same bellhousing pattern, not sure but gonna check. Later Whit

What I haven't heard is that the original auto trans is controlled by the PCM.
How are you intending on handling the manuel trans and leave the auto trans functions to the PCM, open?
The PCM may get unhappy with all that open control circuitry.
It involves overdrive lockup, speed detection feed back, neutral switch signals etc.
A lot to work out without knowing if it will be a sucess for all the effort and cost.
I would expect you need to research using as much from another truck with the same motor as possible to help limit the issues you will need to hassle with.
A stock auto setup has a lot of programming involved in the PCM that will be different in a manuel such as rev limits, down shiftpoints, expected shift points, the drive conditions that control the operation of the EGR, etc.
I think if you get the truck running that you will end up with a lot of codes that you can't address.
Back yard engineering is sometimes bitch when you don't have a full deck to work with and cost more than it's worth.
Good luck, it's not the old hot rodding days any longer unless you go back to installing the old stuff and throw out the new then the deck gets a lot smaller..

Yeah bluegrass I'll have to do alot of research first. Before I did anything was gonna check with mike at 5star as to whether he could help me on another program on the tuner. I tend to get ideas that are totally unneccesary and seemingly impossible and then do them just because I want to prove to myself I can (my wife hates that about me). I've been playing with this idea since I bought my 01 S-crew and found a 5 speed the other day and started thinking....what if......again. Would have to wait till this truck isn't my daily driver anyway. Later Whit
