The question that I have is if someone wants to put a tuner on their truck and instead of putting in a dpf delete pipe can you just hoolow out the dpf to get the same effect without making it obvious that the dpf is really gone? I would think that if you could do that it would be kinda nice to have it look like it is still there just in case. Any comments or suggestions?

 

Good concept, but then you would have a $2,500 hollow tube!

 

And a voided warranty if they link it to you!

 

And most anyone who knows whether or not your truck should have that exhaust thingie would also know somethings not right if you are blowing smoke and/or your pipes are black.

 

Who are you hiding it from? The dealer is smart enough to know. Even if you put it back to stock the truck will enter the default regen. This may work if you are trying to pass through check stations or something like that where they just do a visual check but as mentioned, if they are checking to ensure there is a DPF in place they are going to be knowledgable enough to question the sooty pipes and black smoke. Also, have you heard the difference in the sound of these trucks when the DPF is removed? Huge difference and you wont fool anyone that knows anything about these trucks.

 

Also, as already mentioned, you must really want to fool someone bad in order to gut a $1,700 filter. I know this was a trick 30 years ago with cat convertors but the convertors werent an active part of the exhaust. Meaning there were no sensors to manipulate how the engine runs. With the computer tied to the exhaust system its a completely different deal.

 

Agree with caprang, this thing is just too dang expensive to gut.

 

DPF delete pipes are cheap and easy to install. Everyone who has gutted their DPF on forums have regretted it, just a waste of an expensive part.

If you want it to look relatively stock take the heat shields off the DPF and wrap them around the delete pipe.

Maybe that's the next great marketing idea! A DPF delete pipe disguised as an actual DPF!

 

I have to ponder bookem 15,s point. Can you pull the DPF out of the (cannon) that it resides in and re install it for inspections? Or would you have to destroy the housing to remove it ? I understand you have to have the programming to run,but it would give you visual coverage. My mileage sucks. Please, anybody care to comment about DPF kits? I picked up about 1 MPG off a flashpaqe and pull heavy (35,000) have a 5" stainless cat back. The exhaust change was to keep the soot off the fender, it helps. Went through 2 dripping radiators before recall to install pressure venturi,no trouble since. Lost some EGR sensor that cut boost to 20 PSI. limped in for repair. Truck pulls like Jack the Bear,Im no Diesel rookie,85 F-250 4x4 ext cab 6.9. 86 F-250 day cab 4x4 6.9. 93 D-250 4x4 ext,exhaust,injectors,lift,ect. 95 D-3500 day cab dually flat. injectors,exhaust,pac brake. 04 F-450 6.0 dually flat+boxes,juice box. The hot rod stuff is way cool, and I like to see these young guys doing all this stuff with these trucks, But I work the truck HARD and am looking for comments from pullers,not racers.Thanks.

 

Maybe a good idea, but as others have said, how are you going to disguise the soot in the tailpipe?

 

To get the filtering units out of the housing the entire filtering media has to be destroyed. Like I said earlier, delete pipes are cheap and are VERY easy to install. I was able to remove my entire stock system, install a 5" downpipe delete pipe and stacks in about an hour.

Just making it look like a DPF is there should be your smallest problem, hell majority of cops don't even know what a DPF is. If you're worried about getting caught your main concern is the smoke and sound the truck will produce.
