US Navy "Tiger Cruise"

A Tiger cruise is for families or frindes of our sailors, when they come home from deployment they can bring up to 2 people on board to enjoy a cruise into their final port, In my case I flew to Jacksonville FL. to join his ship and cruise into Norfolk, VA. It was a 2 night 3 day cruise. You sleep in your sailors berthing area with them so if they are enlisted you get the small racks and If they are an Officer then you get better. We also got a tour of the ship. I was on the U.S.S. Theodore Roosevelt a Nimitz Class Carrier. I felt sorry for the tiger that were on our escorts as we had some rough weather the last night, not bad on the carrier but on the cruiseres it can be a little rough.
Here is a link to videos I took on the cruise. enjoy. I will add more.

I had the privlidge to take a Tiger Cruise in 2005 aboard the USS Duluth LPD-6. One of the most memerable experiences of my life. My step-son was an electronics tech on the Duluth. My son and I flew to Honolulu, joined my step-son on the ship at Pearl Harbor and sailed back to San Diego. I took 10 days. The USS Rushmore and the USS Bonhomme Richard accompanied the Duluth. During the cruise we were treated to flight and live fire demos by the aircraft from the B.H, several BBQ's on the flight deck of the Duluth, and mostly good food on the mess deck. We were greeted in San Diego by fire boats in the harbor, a Navy band on the dock, our families and the Charger cheerleaders. It was a real eye opener.

My rack was the top of 3 in a compartment 2 decks below the weather deck. Slept very well, especially the nights the swells were big.

Mine was the bottom rack of 3 one deck above the rudder compartment and below the hanger deck at the very aft.

Navy Cruise

I did that for a living. Spent 22 years and retired in 1976 as a Chief Petty Officer. Only did one tour aboard a carrier the USS Tarawa CV40,a couple destroyers and 3 submarine tenders. Weather permitting they can be very enjoyable.
