I have an '03 2wd V6, bought new. It has been serviced at every scheduled interval and oil changed every 3k. I have just hit 150,000 miles.
* 2 driver door regulators, master cylinder, speedometer replaced under warranty.
* Trans replaced at 105,000. I think it was over $3,000 to fix.
* Currently leaking oil from timing cover and pan. Livable but the oil hits the exhaust manifold and the smoke smell gets in the cab. Ford wants $1,400 to repair.
* A/C compressor and one hose leaking. Ford wants $2,100 to repair.
* IAC failed, I didn't even ask for a quote.

I have really liked the car for it's size, utility, and drivability. Based on these issues, however, I would have to really think hard before buying another one. I was aiming for 300k out of this pup.

If you want 300K out of a vehicle you're gonna have to buy a rice burner. Really not being sarcastic or funny.

I know 2 people who own Hondas. One has an Accord and the other a CRV. Both have over 200K on them and regular service was all they have done to them. Hondas just don't break and last a long time. Whatever it is they are doing American car builders should copy them. I won't buy a rice burner just for the fact that it is not an American company getting my money.

I do know the odds really favor the Nip cars when it comes to mileage. The Accords are legendary for going over 200k w/o anything but normal service. I'm like you, I kind of hate to buy Japanese... but honestly, they're made in America now, by Americans, so it is hard to honestly say you're not supporting American jobs. I've been to the Toyota plants in SF and Kentucky and they're full of regular old Americans.

2002 Tribute V6 FWD. 176,000 miles and all original except for an alternator replacement. My wife's daily driver.

2009 Escape V6 AWD, 72,000 miles and all original. My daily driver. I can't wait to see what the 2012 Escape has to offer.

The wife's 08 was hit by an 18 wheeler and rolled. She was waiting to turn left when he skidded into her. The volunteer firefighters pulled her out through the sunroof. When the insurance paid off, couple of days, we went to the dealer and she wouldn't look at anything else. She has a 09 with 65,000 on it and not a lick of trouble. They are definitely built "Ford Tough".

My 94 F150 has 350,000 and is still my daily driver.

HELL NO! to put it loosely Had nothing but issues, and my wife worked for ford assembly! She first bought the truck warranty work with the trans. REPLACED under warranty. at around 10,000 miles. Then comes the alternator at 55,000 miles. Then at 78,000 the P.T.O. part if the trans goes out. That was 1800.00. Then know the pcm is shot at 97,000. So no thank you it might save your life (thank god for those it has in an accident) but to me i cant even get it on the road in order for it to be "ford" tough.

Sorry to hear of your problems. After reading all the posts, it seems that an overwhelming majority of owners have had great success with their Escapes.

I have no plans to get rid of either of mine even though the newer ones have more bells and whistles. I just extended the warranty on both of mine for another 4 years/48k miles. Cost a few bucks but one repair of the A/C or any major system will more than pay back on it.

I believe your experience with your Escape is the exception rather than rule.

Also your Escape was probably built on a Monday...

My daughter and sil bought used 06 Mariner at the dealership where his dad is svc mngr and have had 2 issues with it(actually one). Check eng lite and minor issue and daughter took it back one day for another cel, but it was low tire lite. She was red-faced since her fil was there.
