Computer Question

Maybe one of you folks can help me out a little here.

I fired up my laptop this morning to do updates and all, since I'm going to take it with me this weekend. Went to Windows Defender and got a pop up saying it was turned off. Tried to run as administrator and got the "unidentified program wants to access your computer" message.
The program requesting access is MSASCui*****. Being that it is an ***** file, I'm leery of allowing it access because I'm ignorant of what it really is.

Does anyone here know?

Didn't notice that. That's the FTE filters.

It's an executable file.

I'm not sure what is going on with your system, but that file appears to be a required system file.

Windows Defender - MSASCui***** - Program Information

What is msascui*****? - msascui explanation.

msascui***** - What is msascui*****?

Thanks Bill. I had no idea, but I seem to remember that malicious stuff can find it's way on to your system through .e x e files, and I didn't want to click in haste and repent in leisure.

No problem. Better safe and slow. You can google just about any file name and find out what it does.

Just remember that, just because a file name is good, does not mean the file has not been tampered with. It's just one clue.

this is my brothers story not mine.
macs have more holes in there system then vista does, but you dont see as many issues with macs just because the number of them out there is a much small number, and mac spends a bunch of money to keep the storys hidden. a while back there was this guy who found a security issues with them and tried to tell apple about it but apple said no there is no issues and effectively ruined the guys programing carrer so then a group of programers who liked the guy spent a bunch of time finding holes in the mac system and they found a ton of them.

Im a mac guy myself, but its more for the professional programs that i need than anything else. But even if Macs have more security loop holes, nobody takes advantage of them and i have never had a problem with mine, so im happy!
