Hey all

My truck regens about every 100 to 300 miles I drive a lot of short distance and it takes for ever to get out of regen cycle I usualy have to take it for a 30 mile drive for it to finish. If I do not take it for a drive it would take weeks for it to get out of cycle.

Is their a way to get rid of this nonsence? Do I need to take in the shop?

How do I get better gas millage I get 12.6 MPG I live at 6,800 ft above sea level with 6,800 miles on this truck

Only way to get rid of it is to remove the DPF and put a tuner on to disable regens.

Short trips don't make a lot of heat for passive regens and they make a lot more smoke/soot, so you need to regen more often.

On the gas mileage, regens hurt mileage and so do short trips with lots of stop and go. With the 6.4, you can't have less than a 250 and they are heavy and not aerodynamic. If you're worried about MPG you probably should have bought something else. It is diesel after all, not nuclear.

Hi Mike

Thanks for the reply I realize this 250 is not for gas mileage I am a contractor and pull big loads.

Just thought I could change something to get a little better mileage.

Thank You

You can. Delete the cat and add a tuner. You'll probably delete the warranty though. Are you getting this MPG doing short trips while pulling big loads?

well sweet I was starting to wonder I just took a road trip 55-65mph where posted and still had it regen 3 times in a 400 mile trip. Out of it I got 12mpg empty besides my fat *** and a friend.

I had the T put in and my radiator still popped. Going in next week to get it replaced.

Thinking of just saying the hell with the warranty and ordering up all the goodies for it.

How long ago did you put the t in it? Seems that the damage to the radiator was already done. Once the t is in and a new radiator then you should be ok.

I posted a message a few days ago that there was a new pcm flash out and that it was crap, sounds like a couple of people got it anyway...

I bought the truck in Januaryish, and had taken it in to the dealership 2 weeks after because they said there was a recall on it. 1 week went by and then I started to notice spots on the driveway. Its progressivly gotten worse especially with road trips. I will make sure they don't do any PCM flashes when I take it in.

I had the reflash done a few months ago. I have a regular 500 mile round trip that I take and since the reflash, I regen at least once on this trip, often twice. Before the reflash I sometimes had a regen once, sometimes not at all.

Hard to tell if my mileage changed much. I'm thinking the reflash itself didn't do anything to improve mileage, but the increased regens seem to have knocked down my average by maybe 1MPG. I used to average 19-20MPG on this trip, now I average 18-19MPG.

Bought my truck in January with the reflash already done by the dealer. Just took a thousand mile trip towing the toy hauler (10,000lbs.) Went into regen once on the 500 mile trip to CA and once on the way back. Got 10 mpg on the flat portion and 5-6mpg in the mountains. I maintained the same 60 MPH going up and down hills as I did on the flat. Truck never strained or kicked down. Plenty of power but it used plenty of fuel too. A 30 gal. tank just doesn't get it in this truck. I usually regen once every 1-1 1/2 tankfuls in town and get about 12.2 mpg in stop and go. Truck now has 5,000 miles on it with out any problem until it threw a code for the EGR valve position yesterday. Will take it into the dealer on Tuesday.

Just did a 450 mile round trip thru the mountians of VT, 75% was at 70+mph, 20% at 50-55 mph rest idling around town. Regened twice, 1st half way up and second almost home about a 250 mile interval. Average MPG's acording to the Lie-O-Meter (I know, didnt want to use the Brain, being long weekend and all) was 14.5
