The torque converter is never locked on the 3-5 shift. Your problem is not the converter.

If it's the 3-5 I'm willing to bet it's the intermediate clutch. Probably have a little scorching on a drum. The 3-5 is one of the weaklinks and on the rebuild kit(suncoast) that shift is a real sharp firm s.o.b. of a shift.

I will say this, the suncoast kit allows for you to use cheaper tranny fluid. I wouldn't.

i 'm just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. hate to rebuild tran and it happens again.tex what tune r u running with the Phalanx. to they have a ultracomp tune yet. or do u think the hybrid is faster than the ultra tune on the sct? the hybrid on my truck is slow compared to thr ultra.u think the kit for 8 or the kit for 12 from suncoast?

Right now I'm doing the street competition tune. Think of it as AggStreet on steroids.

I've only had the Hybrid. He stopped doing the Ultra when I started using his tunes and I got rid of the Triple Dog.

I have the 8 kit. Make sure you get the billet input shaft as well. And put the clearance at .048(tight as it will go). You'll know what I'm talking about when you get the instructions. Give yourself about a month lead time for the custom converter.

What are you doing with the truck? Hauling? DD? Racing? Combination of any of those?

You'll want to get their performance converter then and just a warning, it will run hotter then stock. Mine does and I have them build it closer to stock because I do heavy hauling. You'll need to get some new tunes though to help it out, otherwise it'll shift almighty rough.

No, your 3-5 issues are not converter based. I would be willing to bet your intermediate clutch is going or is bad.

Fraid not. I don't even think he has the software anymore to do that. Proprietary and all that I think.
