Should I get an alarm system installed?

I was talking to guy who installs the Viper system. I'd like a glass breakage alarm, but I'm a bit worried about complicating the electronics, battery drain, malfunctions, non-factory remote...

Great.

I haven't been able to find a good place where they objectively review alarms. i don't think Consumer reports ever has. I have found random comments by people complaining about them, though.

The alarm that came on my '97 F-150 functioned flawlessly and saved me from thieves a few times, and it used the original ford remote, but i don't even know what kind it was.

Is that the one that came with it, forget the name, the one they gave me the hard sell on , along with the extended warranty, kept reducing the price from $950 down to $300 or something?

I had the dealer put a remote start and an alarm system on my 2009 F150. He said it would cost me $300. extra. To make a long story short i got the Ford remote start and a more expensive alarm for $300 with a lifetime warranty on the alarm system because i insisted everything be on one fob at the beginning of the negotiations for the truck. So i got almost a grand worth for $300. Alarm $549, remote start $449.

The Series 200 Ford 6-button remote start/alarm (part # 7L3Z-19G364-AA ) is about $530 (including PATs) at any dealer installed without any deals.

I thought I would need an alarm system so I got this viper system installed in my car but I don't think I actually need it. I think just having the little blue light on the dash from the system is a deterrent enough.
