Talking

well I wouldn't put cash down without knowing for sure anyways. There are various sources around here that claim 390's, I won't be buying on the first meeting.

Wink

i don't know what the stroke is as I have not met with one of the owners yet, planned on checking out the identifying numbers on the castings block etc for a start. The owner claims 390 with a c6 tranmission

You cannot go by block casting numbers to ID the engine size of ANY 352/360/390/410 or 428.

ALL these blocks were originally cast as 352's, only when the blocks were finished could they be something else.

So...whatever number is on the block....doesn't mean diddly-squat.

You will also find 352 cast into many of these blocks on the drivers side of the block at the front...that doesn't mean diddly either.

There's no way to translate casting numbers either...as they cannot be cross referenced to actual Ford part numbers.

Some people say..."Oh...the C6ME block is a 428."

Uh huh...it''s only a 428 in the one or so engines they found...but it also could be a 352, 390 or a 410.

You'll need the bellhousing with 'ears' and a FE front cover that takes the front motor mount.

What stock parts would those be? N-O-N-E = none.

1957/60's are a totally different truck than 1961/66's.

The first year a 352 was factory installed was in 1965, first year for a 360 or 390 was 1968.

The 223/292's are mounted completly different than an FE engine (assuming the FE is 2WD).

These two engines use 2 donut shaped rubber mounts on a L shaped bracket that bolts to the front of the block. One rubber mount is above the crossmember, one below.

A bolt goes thru both donut mounts from below the crossmember then thru the L shaped bracket, where a nut and washer ties it all together.

The riveted in transmission crossmember uses two more donut mounts on each side. One about the crossmember, one below. A bolt goes thru both donut mounts, then attaches to ears on the housing.

FE engines use two rectangular shaped steel/rubber front mounts. One right, one left that bolt to the block, then bolt to stands that bolt to the engine crossmember.

Under the transmission is a bracket that bolts to the frame rails. One steel/rubber mount bolts to the center of the bracket, then to the transmission.

What 1964 or earlier F Series truck has mountings like this?

N-O-N-E = none.

And...there is no bellhousing on a A/T used with an FE engine. It's an integral part of the transmission case.
