mounting up engines and transmissions ARTICLE

Hi guys/ladies

a few months ago one of our long time members and I had a discussion about engines/transmission mounting after he had talked to a newer member about a 460 engine in his truck.

a suggestion was made (maybe in jest) that I do an article on engine mounting. Now, I'm no guru on engine mounting but have done mine at least twice (the volare install and the MII install) so I've made a majority of the mistakes youi can make and live.

Here's my notes on how to do it with a side mounted engine and rear supported transmission...

Ya'll read over it and if you see any glaring errors or just dumb statements that need correcting let me know and I'll edit as necessary... Editorial comments about sense of humor or writing style will be tactfully ignored. It's written how I write.

http://www.clubfte.com/users/jniolon...e_mounting.htm

if it suits the powers that be... maybe it can be added to the articles page and maybe stickied.... they will see about that...

thanks for the input and critique..

BTW there is another one on "using relays" submitted and as soon as Adrian has the time to get it posted it will be available...

later
John

John, nice job. Very informative even if a little heavy on the safety side. It's better to be safe than sorry, however. I can't think of anything to add...

sorry Vern...gues I do carry on a little but I've seen too many (and made too many) dumb mistakes. And kicked myself for getting hurt when 30 more seconds would have prevented it. I've also talked to people who have no idea what's involved and even though it's relatively simple, if you don't know the dangers you can get bad hurt before you know it... just skip over that part

John, what you said about the concrete blocks was news to me. I've used them in the past, but no more!

Hello John, Good to hear that you're still around! How's the '53 project coming? I know us Grandpas have lots of distractions that keep us from completing our projects, but who cares? I'm not on Overhaulin' so I don't have a time limit to finish my '54. Great article and keep them coming! later, Steve

Thank's! Good stuff John! This will be good info to most anyone who is contemplating this job.A very good overveiw. I too find the safety stuff a little on the dry-side,but have learned to focus a little better and pay a little more attention to warnings, hazzard signs in my 'accrued' years.,No-one needs to loose life or limb or see any help get hurt, the house/garage burned down or have to dial 911 while trying to enjoy their hobby.,

Thank's!
