Im just making sure I consider all my options, I love a strong straight six but you cant beat a V8 for certin applications. And I like the idea of being able to add performance mods down the road if I decide to. Dosnt seem like there are many options in the 300 EFI world.
How about longevity, I knw that the 300s claim to fame is lasting forever, will one get the same from the 302?

I know the 302's last very well. I just had to rebuild mine and as far as I can tell I was doing it for the first time since the truck left the line in 1970. I think I was getting somewhere around 10-15 when I first got the truck, put some headers on it and got a bit better, but now I have a mild cam in it so I expect to maybe get around what I used to get.

have one of each and they both get between 10 and 12. the 85 300 is on the lower end of the scale but it's had very minimal work and old and beat to hell. the 302 is only a year old on a fresh rebuild in an 83 block, finally got the carb tuned almost perfect and running a mild cam that switches the firing order to the 351 order and she's getting 12+ mpg if i drive nice. this is in front of a c6 and i haven't even got to the rear yet. i will say that neither of them have the power III want, which is why i'm taking my old 79 302 block and gonna build a 347 out of it.

I've got a 1971 ford f100 with a 302/4spd and a 1988 jeep Comanche with a 242 (4.0L)/auto.
The ford gets better milage, especially when i hot rod it around town. I know my school is 4 miles away, and i hot rod it there and back, and in 4 days, theres a 1/4 tank. That would be 3/4 to a full tank in my jeep.

P.S EVERYONE.... This past year I am burning two tanks of gas reg vs mid grade .... It's something with the reg gas ... I have been running mid grade and it lasts a lot longer ... Haven't done milage check but driving the same places each week and normally I use about a tank a week all of a sudden I was using 2 a week ??? My uncle suggested I use midgrade I said I couldn't afford it he said double the price of reg when at the pump and compare if your using twice as much that will make it easier to decide .....
$3.75 x 2= $7.50 vs $4.00 x = $4.00......that helps my cheap *** at the pump

MY 1979 302 has a 2bbl carb and it gets great gas mileage for a full size truck of it's time ... Obviously it has a lot to do with how you drive it ... Since I got rid of my muffler and did a straight pipe I tend to drive it a little harder because it sounds nice , as far as longevity my original 79 302 had about 500,000 on it when I lost a main bearing... I would have rebuilt but it was my only transportation at the time so I opted for a swap and put an 86 302 in it as a quick fix ... But I love my 302 and the 2bbl motorcraft carb is fine as long as your not driving it on the racetrack...
