buying a sweet 2002 Expy...got questions????

I found a 2002 Expedition 4x4 XLT with only 25K miles on it. I have never owned a Ford gasser....... Are these Expy's in that year a good SUV? It's got the 5.4 in it. Any feedback would be appreciated!! Going to get it tomorrow if you all give me a big thumbs up!!

They're defintely good trucks...I now have my second 2001 and my good friend bought my first one...and he loves it. 2002 is the last year of the "real Expy". In 03 they went to the IRS and dropped the solid axle rear...which IMO is much better. 5.4l motor is great too!
Good luck!

With only 25k on it? Sounds good unless its sat outside its whole life an there is rust problems or paint blemishes on it. Apparently the doors rust out at the bottom from what I've read on these forums so look those over and take it for a long test drive, stop some where and see if the 4x4 engages, etc. Look for oil leaks but I doubt that. If it all looks good, get your check book and get over there! To put this in perspective, I bought my 97 with 107,000 on it and I love it. The mileage didn't bother me because I know the owners and I know that they treat their vehicles really good. The 5.4L is the appropriate motor for the vehicle and I find it to be plenty. If it hasn't been abused I'd say your solid from what it sounds like.

25k on a 2002? Wow! Follow the checklist 97ExpGuy offered, and if all checks out, I say go for it. I absolutely LOVE my '02 and plan on driving it until it dies. The 5.4 engine is a great powerplant and will provide you with many, many years of trouble-free miles if maintained properly. I haven't had the door rust issue mentioned above. Only issues I have had the entire life of the vehicle so far are a bad COP at 12k, another bad COP at 97k and a right front hub bearing assembly. Otherwise, routine maintenance. I change my oil every 5k, trans gets flushed annually. I consider the 97-02 Expeditions to be tanks and virtually indestructable...if treated properly. I say you found yourself an awesome deal! Let us know what you do.
