As far as I know it doesn't. It mainly allows the injector to stay open just a tad longer letting a little more fuel in.

The Super Duty trucks have a 120v IDM... so I don't see a 140v doing anything bad to the injectors.

Don't recall the actual size...Radio Shack carry's a very thin solder that contains silver.
Use that, flows quickly and at low temp. .20 or .22 comes to mind but you will know it when you see it.
Use a 15 Watt soldering iron.

Yes, get the solder with silver in it from radio shack. Some guys don't even have to add solder because there's enough left over from the old resistor. I had to add a little to mine though.

Just don't get too big of a size.

Quik question:
I have 2 IDM's one is 100V and one is 120V If I do this mod on the 100v it will be 140v(so I understand). If I do it to the 120v IDM will it still be 140v? I have 2 75ohm resistors (Thanks Rodney!).
My hands are dirty and I am ready to do this, I hope to hear from someone soon.
Thanks
Cope

Yes they will be 140v, but you need different specifications of the resistor, Im going to see if I found that.

Wink

here you are:
IDM-100 uses a 75.0k Ohm (75,000 ohm) 1/2 watt 1% tolerance Metal Film resistor
IDM-110 uses a 75.0k Ohm (75,000) 1/2 watt 1% tolerance Metal Film resistor
IDM-120 uses a 73.2k Ohm (73,200) 1/2 watt 1% tolerance Metal Film resistor

Does anyone have the digikey part numbers for those resistors? Trying to find them on the digikey web site is a nightmare at best.

OK I am using the 100V IDM. This one is different! It says it is made in Brazil on the data plate. The guts are all diskombabulated compared to the pics in page 1. I did find the 6042 do-hickey s I supose I will pull it and try the other resistor. There is hardley any room at all!
Anyone wanna add anything?

Alrighty, All done! It is a little more "snappier". I spose it is a prelude to other mods ie; injectors, tunes etc. Not bad, I am happy. Thanks for everyones help.

I don't have much experience with silver solder, but it is more expensive.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solder

Silver is also an excellent conductor. so it makes for good properties. It's bonding strength might not be that of 60/40 Lead/Tin, which is what I generally use.

Remember, the worse thing you can do when soldering is use TOOO much solder.
it should not be bubbled over the component. Just enough to attach it firmly, should create a...

I'll make some pictures. Stay tuned.
