Here's the thing. All I've (or anyone else) has heard about the Raptor 6.2L is 400HP, 400ft/lbs of torque.
And who says they are replacing the V10 with the 6.2? The V10 is only used in the Superduty, and motorhome chassis.
Replace the BASE engine in the Superduty, the 5.4, sure, but who knows what's going on. No one has ever posted even a RUMOR that the V10 is discontinued at any point.
Not that I've read, anyway.
What I have heard is that the 6.2L 'Boss' will be the only gas engine available in the 2011 Super Duty. The 3 valve V-10 is going away. The old 2 valve V-10 will still be around for the E series and motorhome chassis. The 3 valve V-10 was a Super Duty only engine, it would not fit in the E series.
Horsepower is one thing, but if they are going to put them in the Superduty, they better deliver a flat torque curve.

If the 6.2 will replace the V10, I'm glad I bought my 09 "lame duck" engine, because 400 ft lb won't cut it in my application. Any news on the 7 liter boss?
yep, people who have never experienced the V-10 will always say it's a "lame duck". I personally like them, they are more reliable then the powerchoke. They go a easy 200K miles without issues. I could go on and on.
The V-10 isn't being replaced by the 6.2 "boss" in real work trucks, note the F-450 and F-550 will still have the V-10 as the gasser of choice. Humm...maybe the 6.2 can't hack it in a 19K lb truck day in and day out.

Hmmm well. For starters we have a 08 f250 Screw v10 w/ the tow package, and we had a 05 excursion v10 w/ tow package. I would say haven driven both for a while they are "lame ducks" the 08 not near as much as the 05. But they both still were.
They reminded me way to much of my 97 250HD w/ a 460. Slow and gas hungry. I belive they could have used some more love from the factory, maybe 50ish more pony's but the torque was nice.if they had done something ( please forgive me for this) like chevy where half of the cylinders shut off at cruising speed to gain some highway milage it would have helped alot. If they just could have improved the mileage it would have been a lot better.
And the excursion blew out a spark plug at somewhere around 90k. So im not sure just how long they last.
But i would have to agree the v10 is much better suited for the 450's and 550's. But for anytime the truck is not primarily a work truck gas matters. I think a little drop in torque would be worth some more mileage.

Were they ever "maintained" or even changed in that 90K miles?

I cant give you a clear answer because it was the vehicle for who ever didnt have one at the moment. my step sister had it 120 miles away for some time, not sure what went on there. If memory serves about the same time the supercharger was put on our 05 f150 the excursion went in for a "tune up" not sure of the specifics. it would have been at 50kish if they changed the plugs. At the time i was in football and driving my 97.
It may have been a maintenance issue. But what maintenance issue could have cause the plug to shoot out?

This is way off topic, but if there was water/dirt in the spark plug hole, the corrosion that occurs causes the steel and aluminum to interact and before you know it, it gets loose, and bango. One of the biggest screwups was the 100K (or 60K or 80K) maintenance interval on the plugs.
