Anyone remove their door moldings?

I have an 04 F350 and my door moldings are starting to look like crap and I want to pull them off but I want to make sure that there are no clips or screws holding them on. They look like they are just held on with double sided tape. I would hate to take a heat gun to them and screw them up even worse for nothing. thanks

I think that it's just tape that holds them on. I'd pop a door panel off on 1 side to make sure.

ur safe to pul em off, there are no locating holes...

just be careful removing them... if ur truck has had previous body/paint repairs its possible to "tear" off paint/body filler removing a well stuck moulding...

i recommend using a peice of bare wire, sliding it between the moulding and teh tape..instead of just yanking the mouldings off..

moldings removal

I just did this job ab out 6 wks ago. I used fishing line. Put the line (about 18 inches long) around the molding and work it back and forth while moving it down the molding. It'll come off really easily. Then sand the moldings with 320 grit paper until the shine is gone and the delamination line is smooth. Clean dust off the surface. spray with the laquer colour the same as your truck(colour code inside the driver door). About an hour later spray with clearcoat( aerosol worked great).3 coats of clear coat about 20 minutes apart. Get the paint and clearcoat from an auto body supply store, not walmart or pep boys. Mine look great -better than the OEM job. Remove the two sided tape residue from the moldings with laquer thinner BEFORE you prepare them and carefully remove the same residue from the truck doors. The auto body supply store will have new two sided tape. Ifyou have some average skill you can do this job well. Good luck!

I use 3M products for paint and body. Any body shop supply store will carry 3M products. You can use double sided adhesive tape like the factory did or you can use emblem and molding adhesive. The emblem and molding adhesive is much more difficult to deal with if future removal is needed. It can pull the paint off. I use the 2-sided tape like the factory. 3m brand.
