Hi were on vacation in fl and we arrived on fri and i shut off our expy and the abs pump or whatever it is was humming and was loud. I had to unplug the 2 wire plug going to it to get it to stop. everything works but the pump never stops humming. any ideas?? the noisy thing is right under the master cylinder its a 2000 expy 5.4 4wd thanx to all!! ps the abs light came on when the noise started and is still on.

I have the same problem with my 2000 Expi - just happened today. So I came to FTE (like I always do) and found that no one replied to your inquiry.
I accomplished the same thing with regard to the noise/vibration; I took the 50 AMP CB out of the Engine Bay fuse box. So, now I have no ABS for sure! My "Ethel" has 200,400 proud miles on her. It's a 2wd, 4.6. Ford Experts!? Unite! Reply! Please! What is up with this 'unit'?

It could be worse...it could be singing.

It sounds me in both cases that the internal ABS relay contacts have welded shut. I fairly certain the ABS unit is not serviceable and unfortunately has to be replaced as an assembly.

 

Do you think it is the Hyd or Elect portion of the system? And any DIY suggestions? If the shop manual, says it's .5h job, I am more than happy to pay a qualified mechanic to R&R. Thanks again for replying!
