'99 Expy Charging problem

Hello All,
I have a 1999 Expedition 2wd, 5.4 and the battery light on the dash is staying on. The battery is not being charged by the alternator although the alternator is working (tested with my multimeter). The Chilton manual says to check the Alt FIELD fuse. but doesnt say much about its location. Anybody know where i can find this FIELD fuse? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Rick

I should note that I am not 100% sure that the FIELD fuse is the problem, its only one of the items on my list to troubleshoot.

About a week or two ago i noticed that the battery light would come on when i accelerated hard but would then go out as I decelerated. it did this a few times. Yesterday when i fired the car, the battery light came on and stayed on and its been on since. The car ran in the driveway off the battery juice until that was gone and then the car wouldnt run or fire anymore.

I am no expert, but my guess the fuse would be in the fuse box under the steering wheel by the driver side kick panel. Your manual should tell you what all the fuses do, just look for the one that is for powering the battery.

It's a 20 amp fuse located at the lower right of the 175 amp battery fuses on the firewall.

Thank you for the ideas. I searched the firewall and fender wells this morning before heading to work and could not find it. Checked my Explorer and found it on the Explorer in about 30 seconds, but the Expedition, no such luck.

These are the 175amp fuses that you bolt down right?

Yes they are. The 20 amp fuse is to the lower right of them. I know it's a bit hard to see it in the picture, but it should be there somewhere.
