High idle and hard shift after repairs

92 f150 4x4 super cab long bed 351w
We replaced the oil pump, pan, idler pully, fan clutch, plugs, added full headers (o2 sensor was welded into header, and wires extended 24"), new exhaust (true dual 2.25 all the way back to flowmaster muffs), new k&n filter.

The problem: engine idles high all the time ( it drops back a little after a few min of running like it always has), but its still too high. Also trans shifts are very hard. This has never happened before. I was thinking the 02 sen may be bad? or I screwed up by adding wire to its harness.
I have looked on web and it seems vac leak could explain idle ,but would this also effect trans shifting?? We checked timing and it was really close to stock (good thing too as dis will not move a bit) Any help ??? thanks

Yes, check for vaccum leaks... I dont know for sure if vaccum leaks effect the trannies in our truck, but I have seen cars where that is the case.

vaccuum leak. Try the line down to the vacuum modulator on the transmission. If not, try replacing the modulator. Mine went bad often.

No vacuum connection to trans. If both happened together I would suspect the Throttle Position Sensor, however you should pull the codes. This should tell what the problem with the trans is. The oxygen sensor would not alter the way the trans shifts.
Go to fordfuelinjection.com for instructions on pulling codes without a code reader and also for settion and testing the TPS.

Pulled codes :
EGR volt to low
EGR no vac

Upon closer inspection we found a vacuum line not on intake. Put it back and problem went away. Now that idle is right i can really hear top end noise. I guess theres no saving this one...short of full rebuild
