Antenna Question

I added a leveling kit, but now every time I pull in the garage my antenna hits the top of the garage pretty good. It's probably not a big deal, but I was wondering if anybody has found a solution to this? Maybe a shorter antenna?

Thanks

use some pliers and remove that little ball on the top

use wire snips (or the pliers wire cutter part) and cut the antenna down to about 1-2" above the top of the cab

use epoxy or JB Weld to re-attach the ball to the top of the antenna

They do make shorter antennas. I like mine to hit bacause it gives me an idea of how much clearance i have left.

short antenna available at Advance Autoparts, $10., works as good as the long one.
Has a curl in it like a 2-way radio antenna. See it in the photo.

As said, shorter antennas are available everywhere. Personally, I plan on shaving mine. I haven't listened to terrestrial radio in .... I don't even know how long. Always either Sirius, CDs or iPod.

take a cutting wheel and chop it down shorter, then grind the tip to a point, thats what my brother did. noone puts there hand on top of his antenna anymore.

I'm not sure if cutting the radio antenna is such a good idea. It may affect your reception. On a CB radio, you calibrate your SWR by changing the length of the antenna. This affects how well the CB sends and receives. So I think cutting the radio antenna may be a bad idea.

Cutting a few inches off won't effect the reception. However, I wouldn't cut it shorter than your roof line. In case of low clearance, it will be your first warning that you're about to do some serious damage.

You might not notice a loss of reception til you get out to the fringe areas of a particular station if you shorten a stock antennae. That little ball on mine use to catch the edge of the garage door and make a hell of a noise. so I bought a SS 5" antennae from Bass Pro and it seems to work good. On my '72, I used a vice grips to bend a 45 degree angle to it towards the windshield. Bent it about 4" up from the base. Or you could let the air out of your tires til you back out and then air them back up?

i pretty much live close to the outer areas of reception anyways and still get the same signal i did before. the area i live in is very wooded and kinda hilly and about 50 miles north east of houston. but i still pick up all the houston/galveston stations.
