Offer $$$ suggestion for a "new" 2006 F-150 FX4 SuperCrew

Hello. I just recently joined the forum, but I do like it already. I posted this thread in the "Car/truck Buying Advice" forum and there were suggestions to post it here also, so here it is.

Browsing the web for the local dealers in my area, I found a 2006 F-150 FX4 SuperCrew that is "new". The dealer apparently was not able to sell it. Some of the specs are:

5,4L EFI V8/; 4 SP.AUTOM.;SPORT LEATHER CAPT.CHAIRS; 20"ALUMINUM WHEELS;CHROME STEPS BARS; TRAILER TOWING PACK.;ADJ.PED/REV.SEN.SYST; AUDIOPHILE W/6CD/CLK.

I tested the red one the picture below:

The milleage on the truck is 28.3 mi. Its MSRP was labeled as $42,985 plus destination charge ($795). Total asking price in 2006 would have been $43,780 plus approximately $5,000 in taxes. Other than some color fading on the black door handles and black fender covers it looks pretty good.

I got the Oasis report and it just list some repairs performed as part of recalls and two minor repairs performed as part of customer complaints. As per the dealer, the vehicle has its full 3/36 "new vehicle" warranty available, since it has never been registered as sold. However I am not sure who was the customer making the abovementioned complaints. Could it be the dealer personnel utilizing the vehicle or customer test driving it?

They are "liquidating" it at $33,500. I am looking for suggestions on an offer to dealer. I am not familiar with F-150 prices and have no idea how much I should offer. I am worried about taking a 3 years worth of depreciation hit as soon as it goes off the dealers lot.

What do you think?

Give them the suggested retail per Kelly Blue Book for your area.

I think you can get it alot cheaper then that. My dads buddy just picked up a 09 Platnium editon fully loaded 2 wheel drive I think it was a 4 door not positive. It stickered at 54000 and got it for 34000 out the door i believe. You should be able to get that in the 20's I would think

Ryan50hrl,

That is my main concer. Though they have two (the white one in the photo) as well as several 2007 F-150 King Ranch. The delaer rep also told me that they sold two additional 2006 trucks a few months ago.

something doesn't add up here

I wouldn't pay anything over $20,000

even then, that is a truck that has been sitting since Oct 2006 at a minimum...maybe even as long as the Fall of 2005. If you don't use stuff, it starts to go bad.

If that truck doesn't have some major electrical issues, I'd be very surprised

Wouldn't touch it. You're better off with a certified used one with the 6 year/100,000 mile warranty for much, much less. Either that or get an 09 for 33K.

That's a very popular truck and there is no reason why they couldn't get it sold. In 05-06 they probably could have gotten very close to sticker.

Find someone who can fix you up with an X-Plan pin #. With that and the current incentives, you could buy a '09 with the same MSRP for around $750 more (if you finance with Ford). If you buy that three-year-old truck, it will depreciate at least 50% when you drive it off the lot. At least with a new one, you will only lose around 25% to depreciation, it'll be three years newer, have a better transmission, and no "lot rot."

steer clear of the oncoming Bulls*** you'll end up with. That truck has been sitting for 3 years right? you know how flat spotted those tires are from sitting? and chances are that the truck has not been consistantly ran to keep the fluids from sitting without moving. just it's bad news. i wouldnt buy that truck for 10 grand. maybe 5 grand but i would dog the hell out of it. run it till it's dead.

Find out what the KBB says and use that as a pricing tool. I cant believe that 1) he wants $33k for it and 2) how the hell they havent sold by now. I agree with Ryan50hrl...something seems VERY off about that.

Id pay no more then $2k more then what the book says ONLY because it has the 3/36 warrenty.

BTW, I hope NOBODY here buys a truck these days thinking its in investment. You're going to lose money no matter what you do if you buy it.

I bought my rig New in March '07 as a left over '06 with 25 miles on it. Its a well equipped Lariat 4x4 with 20" wheels, skid plates, etc, etc., basically an FX4 without the Texas Sun stroke inducing black interior. The sticker was around $43K...I got her for $27.5K out the door (included TT&L). $33K for that rig is a friggin joke. I agree with the others here, move on or offer in the low $20's.

Other possibilty is that its been used as a display vehicle....we've got a few dealerships that have vehicles on the roof or on top of the sign....theres one thats had the same yellow Hummer H2 on its roof for 4 years now......and...since body styles just changed...that could be the case on those trucks......but i still wouldn't touch them...

Yeah I agree with all that has been said. Back in 06 these trucks were selling alot faster, without nearly high rebates. In 07 my aunt bought a leftover 06 F-150 Screw Lariat 4x4, with a msrp of 43,xxx and she got it otd price of $32,xxx. So no matter what you should be able to do much better. At most I would think $25,000.
