replacing a rusted frame rail

I am planing on re-doing a poor repair from the PO. The drivers side frame rail is thin in the area of the front spring hanger. The PO did some bubble gum welding/ plating in order to strengthen the area. My thoughts are to cut out the bad section and weld in a replacement from in front of the spring hanger and over the axle or maybe cut it from the back of the cab, remove all the rivets and replace everything all the way to the rear bumper having only one weld at the front cut. I still need to locate a good used frame section and cross member if I choose that route. The other option which would be more work is to custom fab a whole new rear section from the back of the cab on both sides, being built out of box tube. Not having an all original frame is not a issue as the truck is already from the darkside ( nova clip )

looking for opinions,
Thanks,
Rick

sounds like a good plan. you could do a nice c-notch for the rear.
I guess if I was going to do one side a I'd go ahead and do both sides

good luck,
a plan is the first step...
