Doh! AWD Speed Sensor NLA!

One of my speed sensors on the transfer case is leaking through the sensor and out of the prongs, so it is almost toast. Sense I had the day off I would see if I could get a replacement. To my dismay to find out, Ford Discontinued it, 2/15/09

Nothing on D2D.

Checked with aftermarket sources, they all say dealer only part.

So how can Ford discontinue a vital part like this?

So if anyone has a spare new one/slightly used in their collection or knows where I might be able to locate one, I would be greatly appreciative.

Ford's part number is FO9Z-7F293-A.

Dealers can do a nationwide check to see which dealers have your part. I do this all the time. I bought the last gas tank straps and front backing plates on the planet.

Dick

I did have them do a nationwide search (Dealer2Dealer) and the search came back as none found.

Not many in the junkyard, and knowing my luck, if I get one out of the junkyard, it will leak too.

I wouldn't pay $100 for a sensor anyhow.. I've seen whole brand new trancase go for $350 on ebay..

These sensors aren't Aerostar specific, likely same ones used on Rangers and other Ford transfer cases. Might find a part interchange site and see if there are other replacements available.

Yeah it is used on the BII and the E-series, same part number, and it has been discontinued. I think I have a lead on a couple at a ford dealership in AK. I won't know until tomorrow.

It does blow that this vital part has been discontinued. And worse yet, I checked e-bay and found a NOS complete transfercase for $350 with sensor which I am seriously considering in getting.

I looked at the same listing....check shipping costs. From TX to CO was $75, not bad considering the size and weight of this thing....its not light.

Picked up the sensor at a dealership in AK, now they only have two left. $124.44 shipped but my wife loves her Aero and I want to keep it in tip top shape.

I tried using my connections at the Ford dealership in town, but the place in AK would only sell it for retail, so I would still have to pay for employee mark up, so I ended up just buying it myself.

I pray that in the future someone makes a replacement for this valuable item, otherwise we are looking at robbing rebuilt/NOS units for the part.

Can you remind us, which sensor was that? I'll have to look for it at my local scrap yard.
