'86 F250 diesel alternator wiring

Hey guys. I'm having trouble with an '86 F250 with 6.9 diesel. I just replaced the alternator and voltage regulator and still no charge to the battery. What is the proper test on this alternator? It has a 2-wire plastic plug and what appears to be a ground wire that bolts to the alternator and an insulated wire that also bolts to the alternator. Should I be getting 14+ volts at the insulated wire? I believe I was only getting 12. I suppose a wiring diagram would be helpful in tracing down the problem. Thanks.

PS The only good thing about a Chevrolet is the built-in voltage regulator and one-wire charging hook up.

What is the voltage on the battery with the engine running?
