2000 explorer airbag chime
does anyone know how to disconnect the chime for the drivers side airbag, on a 2000 explorer it rings for 5 sec. and repeats this over and over. truck was never in a crash. had trouble with the light since I bought the truck used. ford wants over $1.000 to fix it for a 9 year old truck not worth it trust the seat belt more than the airbag seen to many injury's from air bags.

The chime is telling you that the air bag indicator lamp bulb is burned out and that there is a fault in the SRS system. Replace the bulb in the instrument cluster and the chime will go away. Then you'll get an air bag lamp that will flash a code upon start up, then go solid. You can post the code and maybe it'll be a simple fix or you can just cover the lamp with a piece of tape ....... Don't base your opinion on repairing the system on Fords estimate. It could be as simple as the plugs under the seat being disconnected from being kicked, or corroded, or ...........
Seat belts are great, seat belts and air bags are better!
