Mirror Conversion

My truck originally came with the power paddle mirrors and I just acquired some tow mirrors with the turn signals and heat and would like to hook them up. Which wire is the power? I know I have to run the heat to a 12v ignition and where can I run the turn signal. I have a set of power heated tow mirrors laying around if someone wants them too.

The 01 pickups did not have any wiring for mirror heat, signals, or running lights. Those were an option on Excursions. The pickup power mirrors had a round plug with three wires in a four-wire plug. The Excursions and later pickups used a 10-wire rectangular plug. Do your new mirrors have the rectangular plug?

The mirror heat power is the DG/VT (dark green/violet). The black wire is ground for the heat and both the lights. Brown is the running lights, and the turn signals are LG/WT (light green/white) on the driver's side and WT/LB (white/light blue) on the passenger side.

When I installed heated power mirrors on my 01, I had to make a whole new harness because my manual mirror truck had not wiring for them. For the heat, I used a timer module from a Jeep Cherokee to run the heat for 5 minutes. This module mounts in a Bosch 5-slot relay base just like the "cube" relays in the Ford boxes. I added a relay that can be used to run the heat continuously and a led to indicate when the heat is on. All this is controlled by a (ON)-OFF-ON (momentary on, off, continuous on) rocker switch on the lower dash panel. The switch controls the ground circuit of the timer and relay.

I have the rectangular plugs that the mirror plug connects to. I am working on getting a supply of the male inserts that crimp on the wires and snap into the plug housing. Let me know if you need these.
