thats happened to me twice, people dont understand how to drive stick......

Alrite let me start off by saying that if for stoped selling manual transmissions in there F-350 platform it would be a huge mistake and I would never buy a new truck again.

ok now that that is out of the way i would like to see anyone my age (18) shift a tranny in a farm tractor while moving, im talking like from the 50's here not the newer ones with hydralic clutches and such, old school. I can take my '53 super H and my '55 300 up through all the cogs. second there is nothing sweeter than driving a stick and feeling the engine through the stick, you can just feel it come alive. once had a kid ask my why i had two sticks in the middle of my Jeep and if there was two brake pedals.

-- I learned to drive on a farmall!

I'm 20. And I got a Farmall M sitting in my barn right now. And my buddy has an H. We learned to drive by drag racing those things. Good Times.

And I love manual transmissions. But I've driven a 3-on-the-tree, and I think I'll stick to my 5-on-the-floor. It's a lot easier to keep your arm around your girlfriend.

Kids these days don't know anything about their cars let alone how to drive a manual. I let kids drive my VW rabbit pickup and always kill it. Heck i even show them whats under hood and they think its a gasser. If theres no spark plugs, i wonder what it is then?

Seems to me the only reason they have so many auto is because people DONT KNOW HOW TO DRIVE STICK! The only way I will buy a pickup is if its manual. It also prevents people from taking my pickup because they dont know how to drive it.

It should at least be an option on a deliver as ordered basis. I would wait six weeks for that. I just like driving a standard. I converted my camaro to a standard and am adding an auxillary transmission to my old work truck. I enjoy driving in traffic. I do not see shifting as being a pain like some do. Gm has not offered a stick starting in '08. in my opinion real trucks don't shift themselves.

If they quit offering sticks it will be the last new ford that I ever own. I can see a company offering conversions to manuals from autos if they do seeing that you cannot get a full size GM with a stick and Chrysler is only offering it with the diesel.

There aren't many folks under 30 who even know what a carburetor looks like these days. All I know for sure is that the more my truck does for me the more it's going to cost to fix whatever breaks or quits working. Killing off the middle class and making automobiles and trucks too expensive to own is how the tree huggers are going to get our vehicles from us and force to use public transportation or ride bicycles. (LOL) Give me dependable, fun to own and drive, affordable, and easy to work on American made vehicles or give me death! My preference is muscle cars and pick up trucks, thank you.

Hey that aint funny its actually happening! Half of the trucks at the company I work for that are newer than '05 are automatics. Some of them are "smart shifts" that are basically manuals with servos that do the shifting, theres still a clutch and theres a manual option. The newest ones dont have clutch pedals though, and it is just like a driving a car... kinda boring. But for the tractor shifting I'm gettin pretty good at shifting the twin H on our 686 without using the clutch for up or downshifting, its more fun that way and I can actually shift with less grinding that way than with the clutch.

I cut my teeth on a KW W900L 13spd OD. The thing I was taught is that it is all about RPMs for shifting, because it cost too much for a clutch repair plus the downtime. I was shocked about a month ago when I learned about the new "automatics". There is a lot of small vehicle drivers out there that would scare the hell out of me if they started driving professionally because they no longer have to learn a standard shift. From a maintenance stand-point an auto would be a lot smoother on the loaded drive train.

There is 1 major thing a stickshift does that an automatic will never do ----

---Do what your thinking---

For example, if your driving a stick and you're about to turn, you pull it out of gear and coast. If you do this with the auto, it draggs the engine and wastes momentum. It is too stupid to know if you're gonna stop, or hit the gas right away.

If you're about to hit a giant hill, with a stick, you can elegantly drop out of OD, and start picking up speed. In the auto, you push on the fuel till it shifts and might not even shift nice/ properly.

A standard transmission lets you benefit from low end grunt, an auto only if the TC is locked.
(EG, with my tc locked, I can drive around town at 1000-1300 rpm's. unlocked, 1200-2100)

If a auto breaks, it's probably worthless, whearas a stickshift could usually be rebuilt easily.

your right and wrong my A4LD! << the rangerguys now this tranny all to wellas clunked on me 4 times in 100k but well there heavy and made of aluminum and that means after i got a new one ( from a junk yard for 250 bucks) i would tear down the old ones and go the the scrap yard and pocket about 100

but none the less i found a killer deal on motor 5speed manual and pc for my truck and im gonna just take the pc and tranny ( for now and put in her)

i love stick i cut my teeth as some would say a pete 379 ( oddly enough my grdfathers nd his name is pete o.0 ) off toppic tho i like the added power of stick the ease and the fun of driveing ( i hate city driveingthe fact that i cant say " me my truck for me ( the poor sap will end up pushing it around) and if ya air head it and cluch when ya mean to hit the breaks) in all id have 2 rigs an auto and a stick auto for in town runs ands some road trips stick for towing and offroading and really long hauls but thats just me ya know

(btw i loved my grandpas old 3 on the tree
( and only reason i got a auto truck is well it was cheep)
