The guy doesn't own an F-150 yet, how should he know where it is? Get off his case lol
jstnromero, that's pretty smart thinking covering the oil filter with a plastic bag. All this time I've just been shoving paper towels up there to drain the oil a certain direction lol.
i wish that i could take credit for it but i heard it on here a few weeks back (dont remember who) and tried it myself this past weekend and it worked....guess plastic bags will be in the toolbox from now on.

I just changed the oil on my 08 5.4L for the first time the other day. I removed the air intake and changed the oil filter from the top. I wouldn't have spilled any oil if the oil filter didn't squirt out of my hand like a wet bar of soap. I don't know if Ford changed anything since 04. BTW, mine is 2 wheel if that makes a diffence.

put a plastic bag on the filter before you take it off....should prevent most drippings.....or just lay under it and it will protect your driveway....jk
I tried the baggie trick, and failed spectacularly.

I am only 5'4" tall, so my arms are not that long. My knuckles don't drag on the ground when I walk either. Am I the only one that has change the filter from the top?

I'm over 6 feet tall, with normal arm length. There is NO way I could reach over the fender and down to the oil filter. Besides, you talk about removing the air intake. Why mess with that? Just reach under and do the oil and filter change, or better still, put the front on ramps. That makes it way easier...
You must be working on a ranger. Not an F-150.

What's this, then? 'Romanes Eunt Domus'? 'People called Romanes they go the house'?

To remove the intake only involves removing 1 bolt and pulling it out of the black box that contains the air filter. Swing it out of the way. I then knelt on the portion of the bumber where the grille goes and leaned over the radiator. I have very good access to the oil filter. Just reached in with my oil filter strap wrench and pull it off. New filter goes on just as easy as the old filter came off. I guess I am going to have to post pics of how I did it. It is soooo easy, I can't believe I am the only one to have done this.

I will have to try this on my next oil change! I have spent numerous dollars on a filter wrenches to remove the darn thing, to only have them ruined and or damaged beyond use! Pics would be cool!!!

You are not the only one. Thats how I do it as well. Except, I don't kneel on the bumper. I take the small 4 foot ladder out of the garage and go from the drivers side. You get a better angle on the filter from up top as opposed to down under.

Well thank you for the support. Seems like the others think I am full of it. I went outside and took pics of what it looks like to go at the filter from the top, I will post them it others would like to see.
