Reprogramming FICM from another year

I was wanting to pick up a 2006 FICM to send it off to Innovative Diesel to have it modified for my 2005 truck. I was going to do this to save the down time in my truck.

My question is will Innovative be able to make a 2006 match up to my 2005 when they reprogram it? Thanks for the info.

Yes, the FICMs are the same for all years of 6.0L. You'll just have to tell Eric what programming your truck has so he can match it with the new FICM.

The hardware will work on any year, the OEM software needs to be in the same year as the motor.

When having the FICM tuned, the year really doesn't matter since they are using a hybrid tuning of the '03 FICM stragety and later versions.

Thank you guys for the replies. I just needed to be sure before I wasted the time and money on a spare FICM just to have it not work.

I was aware that all the electrical components had to be from the same year for it to work, but I just wasn't sure if Eric could tune it to match a different year.

The next question should probably be whether or not it is worth it to do all this to the FICM for the minimal gains that come from reprogramming the FICM?

If you don't plan on moving up and your sig line is correct send that FICM in for tuning.

Well I am just running an inline tuner with the Edge Evolution tranny tune right now, but I do plan on getting the FICM tuned as well as picking up an SCT x3 from Innovative Diesel at the same time to maximize my towing performance. I do want to have the same person tune the FICM as well as the SCT X3 and I've heard a lot of good things about Eric at Innovative.

You have an excellent plan, the sooner you get that SCT and FICM done by ID the better for your motor.

....not to mention the tranny! The Edge Evolution does a good job, but it's not custom tuning for the tranny.

Eric emailed me back today and said that he can tune the FICM for any year, but they are a little backlogged right now. I look forward to getting this done.

Has anybody else had their FICM's reprogrammed?

I had mine done by Power Hungry Performance and I'm quite happy with the results. I may switch to ID when I swap turbos.

HeavyAssault, what differences did you notice with the tuning of the FICM?

I was originally going to go with PHP also. But then I realized that it's probably best to have the same person tune the FICM as the SCT X3. I've heard so many good things about Eric's tuning that I'd already decided to go with him for the SCT which is why I ultimately decided to also have him tune the FICM.

If I'm mistaken by this decision, please let me know. Thanks.

I don't think you are making a bad decision. When I had PHP do mine ID wasn't openly tuning FICMs. If I had waited a few months I could have had ID do my spare FICM. To have ID tune both your SCT and FICM tuning will give you the best all around set-up for your setup motor. I would suggest you start considering some fuel mods as the tuning is going to demand more fuel and you want to keep those injectors happy.

I was able to de-tune my truck and install the FICM. There is a low-end power gain as the turbo seems to spool faster from a stop. I ran my QUAD 160 module with the FICM and a SCT tranny tune with excellent results as well. I switched back to my Elite tuning and the PHP FICM with no issues and excellent results. I've been very happy with the results I have with PHP tuning and would recommend either PHP or ID to those wanting to increase their tuning potential.
