My F100 has lap belts, and I'd like to install 3 point belts. The interior seems to be welded to the exterior, in other words it won't come off. Does anyone have a procedure for installing the shoulder mount? If I pop-rivet the mount to the interior will it be strong enough in an impact, or should I just bolt it to the floor and bring it over the seat? Any tips would be appreciated, thanks.

 

I am in a similar situation. I have only lap belts in my 74 F100 and I have 3 points that I am going to put in. I haven't done it yet, but here is what I was planning. I thought about cutting a 2" wide x 2" high slot in the cab then getting some 1/4" or 3/8" thick plate that is just under 2" wide and about 12" lg. to shove in the hole. Then tack weld the interior of the cab at the hole to the plate. Drill and tap a hole in the thick installed plate to mount the seat belt (this being done before it is installed). Then I have some plastic covers from original 3 pt. seat belts that will cover the hole in the cab and cover the mount.

I haven't worked it all the way thru, but that is my plan.

I wouldn't suggest using pop-rivets. I don't think they would take to much of a crash. And bringing the belt over the seat doesn't sound that great either. It would just end up slipping over the side of the seat or breaking the seat up in the crash. The top point needs to be mounted to a solid and secure point, and I am not ever sure if my idea is enough.

 

When these trucks had the Shoulder belt option between circa 1968-1975/76, it had a seperate belt that was attached to the cab, where the retractor would be on the 1976 and later. It's basicly a hole drilled in the cab, with a reinforced ancor placed behind the sheet metal, that the shoulder belt screws into. Simular to the shoulder belts on the supercabs.

It utilized a seperate shoulder belt, that you buckled together, and you had to use it with the existing lap belt the truck has now. Not very convenient, but the only way I know to get safe and period correct shoulder belts in trucks before circa 1976.

BTW I've only seen one truck with this option and it was a 1973 Explorer.

 

Your memory has faded, or you didn't look closely at the shoulder belts in that truck.

The optional shoulder belts came with more than just the shoulder straps.

They included inner belts with three buckles on the right side, two buckles and a tongue on the left side.

One buckle was used with the lap belt, one for the shoulder strap, the third buckle on the right side connected to the tongue on the left inner belt.

Confusing isn't it. The third buckle and the tongue connected the right/left belts together.

Got to a junk yard, pull out what you need from a truck that has them, take the measurements of the hole in the cab corner and some pics. Sorry not to sure how the anchor is mounted, but it is a LARGE star head bolt.

My 77.5 has the retractors bolted in a hole the upper cab corner with the end of the belt bolted to the truck floor, with a buckle clip that slides on the belt.

 

Yeah, I don't remember that third buckle for the shoulder strap. Thanks for the correction yet again. My memory has been very bad of late. A Doctor's visit may be in order.

I can see why they wern't popular, sheesh.

I am not sure where to post this, but if this is the wrong area perhaps the moderator can move it for me please.
I have a 1975 f150 supercab. It has factory cruise control on it that I would like to keep as original as I can. From what I have read less than 3% of these came with this option. I need to replace the steering wheel and center controls, can someone tell me where to get the exact factory replacements for this? There is a user on here, that is a retired parts man, I think his name is Bill. Please send a copy of this to him?Thanks in advance!
