After reading these post, evidently I have a good tailgate for a 3/4 ton stepside. I bought it thinking it would fit my 53 f100, but when I tried to use it, it is too wide and too tall. What are the tailgate dimensions for the 3/4 ton tailgate? I would like to know so I can sell it on EBay.

Thank you! I love it. I've never actually seen another in person, found a few pictures on the internet though. They're hard to find!

8' Flareside... Any running boards out there?

I'm restoring my 65 F100 Flareside, and cannot fing long bed steps to save my life! I have a pair of shortbed ones, but it isn't quite right! Anybody know of any out there? Should all be the same, from '57 -'79, as far as I know...

Sorry bigpoppa. I bought the set for 500 from a guy 10 years ago with the intention of repairing my 78 f250 8' stepside. Unfortunately, I had to abandon the project, because the truck was too far gone. The guy I bought them from said "you'll never find another set of these", and he was right. I have kept my eyes open for 10 years and seen ZERO of them for sale.
I always liked the look of the 8' stepside bed because it was rare. I never saw another one in person. I am hanging onto the steps with the idea that I will build another bed around them, because everything else on the beds can either be assembled using 6' bed parts, or fabricated (like the long flat bed sides). But these would be tough/expensive to fake. I would sell them, but I would have to at least recoup what I payed...

Can't blame you there... My truck rolled off the lot and went directly to a shop to ditch the fenders and steps and replace them with some terrible looking 300lb side boxes... Blasphemy! Lol. I'm trying to make it right, with fenders and a spare tire carrier. I may just have to go with plan B, fabricating some steps out of White Oak, or Teak... We'll see.

Thanks for the honesty, Art, and good luck on that future build!

My 72/73 longbed stepside measurement.

Hello again and thank you for responding to my post. I have experienced this truck in my life since I was 8yrs old. My born in 72 and put on the market 73 Ford F-100 longbed stepside has seen its share of great memories! I met the truck when I met the man who would drive me around in his old truck and taught me how to fix my ride, by working on his truck. Since those days are long gone and my dad (step)(no my dad, step is not a worthy tittle!) well he is now gone too. His spirit though rides along beside me in this old truck of his! He is along side me while I work on it too. I’m proud to have had the chance to meet and experience such a true blue hard grit Ford man like him! It was truesa great ride! On to the truck. After I was led so graciously to this forum and seen how many comments and discussions on the length of the long bed I couldn’t stand it any longer and had to run out to the shop, grab a tape measure and fight the chill of the morning to go and see exactly what size bed mine has! I read that there is a 9ft,8ft, and a 6 1/2 ft. Only thing that puzzles me now is really still where does my truck fit in? Do you measure from the actual bed end or bumper end? I know this may be an ignorant question but the reason I ask is because from the back end of the bed it measures at 8ft 7inches. When I include the bumper it makes for the whole 9ft. So would my truck be a 9fter or an 8fter!? Thanks again!

Just to satisfy my curiosity I went out and measured my 8' bed on my 79. From the inside of the front of the bed to the rear end of the bed it's real close to 99". It's hard right now to get a perfect length because of things in the bed. I knew a 4'x8' sheet of plywood would be laid down comfortably in it but just had to measure anyway. I'd say there is a little leeway in what the length is officially called but I don't know what they actually measure anyway. It could be they called an 8' 7" bed a nine-footer. It certainly would not be an 8 footer I would think.

Edit: I cleared out the bed today and from the inside of the front wall to the rear edge of the bed it is 98 1/8".

I learned many years ago that representations made by manufacturers don't always hold up. A so-called 50 gal. aquarium holds 44.88 gallons of water. 1/4" glass is never actually 1/4" inch but 6mm glass is usually called 1/4" if you go to a store to buy it.

Like I said, they may have just called the 8' 7" bed a nine-footer.

P.S. I don't think you measure to the end of the bumper either, I think you did it right.

P.P.S. After I did a little online search I came up with an interesting site that lists many bed sizes. Not yours though. It lists my 8' 1979 bed as 96 3/4" which it's definitely not. Here's the link: Truck Bed Size Guide

Hi y'all.

Sorry to resurrect a zombie thread. I'm looking for the same steps.

Y'all have any leads?
