clutch size 10" or 11" ?

My 54 F100 came with a 4 speed behind the 223. The clutch disk is 11 inch. I am replacing the transmission with a 3 speed BW R10 overdrive. The original bell housing won't work with the new tranny so I found one. My question is, do I stay with the 11" clutch or will my tranny change require the 10" ? Thanks Bob

I'd go with the 10" but if the 11" will work with the new trans just stay with what you have. The reason I initially said go with the 10" is because you're likely not using the truck like a truck to haul heavy stuff anymore so the 10" lighter duty clutch would be just fine for driving it around. But hey this is just my opinion and it's your truck so do what you think is best.

Thanks John. I don't know if I have a choice. I assumed I would replace what I have but don't want to find out after I make the purchase that the 11 inch won't work with my new transmission. Bob

Is your 11 inch a 10 spline like the tranny you are going to?

The 11" is pretty "truck-like" compared to the 10", like Flatheadjohn said. The R10 won't handle the torque 11" is designed for, i.e., it offers no benefit. You can have the flywheel re-drilled and use a 10", or get a flywheel already drilled for it. The R10 should be ready to go with a 10", O/D's weren't paired with 11"-er's as far as I know. (Unless the R10 is from a car? what diameter input spline does it have? small = car = 10" for sure)

The 3 spd OD transmission came out of a 53 F100 with a 215 6 cyl. The input shaft on the 3 spd OD transmission is same the 4 spd. The old clutch disk fits. I already had the flywheel faced and balanced by the machine shop when they balanced the motor. Darn,I didn't think of this before. The 10" kit is a bit cheaper too. Thanks for the help guys.
