turns over but wont fire

sometimes my truck will shut off going down the road and when i try to crank it it turns over but will not fire. then after it sits it will usually fire up within 5 minutes but sometimes its over an hour before it will start. i know it has fuel so im wondering what it could be. i dont think its the coil, and ive already changed the ignition module. any other ideas? when its running it runs great but just shuts off with no warning

It always helps to give the year and engine. Most likely it's the PIP in the distributor, but I would try the coil first beings it's cheaper and easier to replace.

Check for spark.
If you have no spark I would guess PIP sensor or Ignition coil.
If it has spark then I would guess fuel pump.

How do you know it has fuel?
Did you check it with a gauge?
That would be the only way you would know.

i have found the problem it was a short in one of the connectors where the wires go thru the firewall. its the connector right under the brake booster. does any one know if i can just splice in a new connector or will i have to get a whole new harness?

if you look through your wiring harness you will see fusable links all through out the harness. pull on the connections at the fuseable links and also check your grounds
